Our recent class on bear awareness was both educational and fun. A total of three wildlife specialists from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and two field experts from the Defenders of Wildlife organization talked with us on how to identify our local bear types (mostly Black Bears), how to stay safe around them, and how to make our “attractants” (trash, garbage, fallen tree fruit, chickens, etc.) less likely to cause a “human/bear” interaction.
We learned how to use bear spray, using training canisters, and we observed/handled bear-related educational aids (hides, replica scat, foot print casts, bear-safe storage containers, and more). A big “thank you” to our instructors, and to the Pend Oreille County Library District for arranging this excellent class.

Here is a picture of the almost-finished camden grange 2025 raffle quilt. it's a beauty - the pattern is called "easy as pie".
The drawing on 14 june 2025. Raffle tickets cost $2 each, or 6 for $10. You can call me (509-292-0326) to buy tickets, or you can contact grange committee members, or members of our much-appreciated quilting club. Help support your grange and community center. Thanks, Jim McGinty |
